Biography

International double bassist and soloist.

Luis began his music studies at the Superior
School of Music with Javier Cruz
(Principal at the Mexico City Philharmonic
Orchestra and assistant at the Bellas Artes
Opera).

He continued his studies with an internship
with Damian Rubido in London (Birmingham
Symphony Orchestra) and in France
with Professor Thierry Barbé (soloist of the Paris
Opera).
He was a member of the OSIM, Carlos Chávez
Symphony Orchestra, and was Assistant Principal
at the European Vacancy Chamber Music Orchestra.

In 2019, he was a soloist at the year-end performance
at the Instrumenta camp, and in 2016 he
was the only double bassist in the final of the Young
Soloists competition organized by the Mexico City Philharmonic
for all instrumentalists under
30 years of age.
In 2021, he won third place in the International
Orchestra Audition Awards organized by
Samnium University of Music and was a finalist in 2022.

In 2022, he made his debut as a soloist with his
orchestra, the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra of the
Arts, performing the Grand Duo Concertant by G.
Bottesini, and in 2024, with the Bellas Artes
Chamber Orchestra, performing the
string version of the Double Bass Concerto by S.
Koussevitsky.

He premiered Nocturno by Max Torres
for double bass, and in 2023, composer Alberto Portillo
wrote Elegía, a work dedicated to and
premiered by Luis.
